How to book your PDA in Perth

Step-by-step guide to booking your Practical Driving Assessment in Perth — which Licensing Centre, what you need, and how to avoid the waitlist trap.

How to book your PDA in Perth

You can be the best learner driver in Perth, but if you do not book the PDA correctly you will sit at home on test day. Waitlists at busy Licensing Centres catch learners out every week.

Before you can book

  • You have held your WA Learner's Permit for the minimum period for your age
  • You have passed the Hazard Perception Test
  • You have logged at least 50 hours of supervised driving
  • At least 5 of those hours were at night
  • You have a roadworthy test vehicle

Choosing a Licensing Centre

You can sit your PDA at any DoT Licensing Centre in WA. Routes, traffic patterns and waitlist times vary, so choose deliberately.

  • Cannington — busy multi-lane intersections
  • Joondalup — modern roads, Mitchell Freeway entries
  • Mirrabooka — mix of residential and arterial
  • Welshpool — industrial and suburban mix
  • Midland — quieter routes with some hill starts
  • Kelmscott — popular for Perth South learners
  • Mandurah — shorter waitlists for Peel region

The booking process

Log into DoTDirect, select "Book a Practical Driving Assessment", choose your Licensing Centre, and pay the fee. You will receive email and SMS confirmation with your date, time and location.

Waitlist reality check

Busy Perth centres can be booked 6–10 weeks out, especially in school holidays. Mandurah and Midland usually have earlier slots. Book as soon as you pass the HPT — do not wait until you feel ready.

Using a Happy2Drive instructor car

Most learners sit the PDA in their instructor's dual-controlled car. It is already test-ready, your instructor knows the routes, and you have just done your mock in the same vehicle. Book the PDA-day lesson at least two weeks ahead.
